Veggie Tales Products
61Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato have been making our children laugh for many years now while teaching Christian values. If you haven't had a chance to view one of these delightful 3D animated Veggie Tales programs, I've found them to be highly entertaining not only for the kids, but for adults as well. Silliness abounds, characters break into song, and goofiness often takes control, but at the heart of every feature is a biblical story and a moral lesson. The team at Big Idea productions is top notch at combining all of these elements and it's easy to see why their motto is "Sunday Morning Values, Saturday Morning Fun!"
In Rack Shack & Benny, Nebby K. Nezzer (aka Nebuchadnezzar) builds a 90 foot chocolate bunny that all of his subjects must bow down to. This retelling of the story from Daniel 3 shows how risky it can be to stand up for your beliefs but that God protects us. In Little Joe, Larry the Cucumber plays Joseph set in the American old west, is betrayed by his brothers and sold into slavery for being his father's favorite, only to become a leader that saves Egypt from an upcoming famine.
At this time of year with the Christmas season looming, one of my favorites is the Star of Christmas. Set in London in the 1880s, Bob and Larry play Cavis and Millward who are putting on their first Christmas musical entitled - "The Princess and the Plumber". Cavis is eager to put on a big extravaganza with big lights and high production values. The only problem is that across town, a church Christmas pageant is being held on the same night and features the Star of Christmas which no one has seen in over 80 years. The question becomes, to what lengths will Cavis go to in order to have the must see production of the season. In the end it's a story that teaches that God's love teaches us to love one another at Christmas and throughout the year.
Often featured in a Veggie Tales story is an installment entitled Silly Songs with Larry which serves as an intermission before getting back to the story being told. I find these songs highly entertaining, and, of course, silly. With titles such as "The Hairbrush Song", "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything", and "The Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps" you get the idea that Big Idea has a great sense of humor. I've spent hours in the car singing along with the kids as Larry belts out: "Oh where, oh where, oh where, oh where, oh where, oh where, oh where, oh where, oh wherrrrrrrrrre...is my hairbrush?" Now, if you've heard this song before, good luck getting it out of your head the rest of the day!
If you have children, or there are children in your life that you'll be giving a gift to this Christmas, you can't go wrong with a Veggie Tales DVD. You might also consider one of the many Veggies Tales products that are available such as the Looking for Bethlehem Snow Globe or the Bob and Larry Nightlight. These products keep the message focused on Christ at Christmas while teaching our kids Christian values in fun and imaginative ways.
